Mt. 19:13-14, “Then children were being brought to him in order that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples spoke sternly to those who brought them, but Jesus said, ‘Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.' And he laid his hands on them and went on his way."
These verses have rightfully inspired so many ministries, classes, camps, and classes for children. What a blessing it has been to the church that we follow a Leader who says, “Let the children come to me.” How wonderful the courage of the parents who ignored the disciples’ rebuke and brought the first children to Jesus, seeking the blessing of his prayers. How great the heart of our Lord, for receiving all persons whom society and religion kept at a distance, welcoming them to himself.
These two verses do not need my clever expounding; they need our prayers. Pray with me, please: Father God, thank you that your Son revealed your heart in so many ways, including your heart for little children. Thank you that Jesus received them. Father, in our age so many children are hindered from coming to Jesus. Remove those barriers, so that these children may be brought to you. So many churches, like ours, Father, lack children; since the kingdom belongs to such as these, Father, we humbly ask you to bring children to our church. When them come, Father, enable us to give your blessing to them so that they might know you and live for you. Amen.
