Merciful God, we pray for our world that faces so much violence. We pray especially for the people suffering war conditions and the threat of war. May leaders at every level learn to speak in favour of humanity and justice. We pray that all people can walk the path of peace, the path of forgiveness, the path of equality.  

We pray for your children in Ukraine as the war rages on. We pray for those in neighbouring countries as the impact of the war spills across their borders. Comfort your children whose lives are shaped by terror and tyranny. Loosen the grip hatred has on the hearts of those who have been hardened by greed and trauma. Mend the wounds of all who are in pain.

Lord, make us instruments of your peace. 

In the midst there are also voices of reason and peace; perhaps they speak in whispers, but they speak nonetheless. May those whispers rise to shouts that proclaim the way forward with words and not weapons.

Lord, make us instruments of your peace. 

O Lord our God, grant us grace to desire you with our whole heart:

  • that desiring you, we may seek you; 
  • that seeking you, we may find you;
  • that finding you, we may love you;
  • and that loving you, we may hate those sins from which you have delivered us.
